Ireland Itinerary

We just got back from an amazing trip to Ireland, Wales, and London. Ireland was by far the best at accommodating GF with the places we visited! This guide will be where we stayed and activities we did/reviews as far as that goes. If you are only interested in the food recs- hop over to this post! I separated them to keep it from being one giant page to scroll through. I hope this is helpful!

Lodging/cities:

Killarney & Dingle:

We stayed at Hotel Killarney for the first 2 nights of our trip. It was nice and had an adorable bar and restaurant area where I had one of the best margaritas ever (spicy strawberry… yum!). It was nice to end at our own hotel for a night cap with a card game and then walk back to our room to go to bed. They had a separate gluten-free counter at the hotel breakfast, as well as offered to make a hot Irish breakfast gluten-free which I did. I took it to go as we were rushing off to our Dingle Sea Safari, which I will definitely touch on in the next section, as it was our favorite excursion of the trip! That same evening, we saw Killarney National Park through a horse drawn carriage tour. This was a nice laid back activity and taught us a lot about the history of Ireland/ Killarney. Both Killarney and Dingle were adorable towns; Killarney had more to do (and shopping/downtown area), while Dingle was a quaint boat/port town.

Clongegal/County Carlow:

The second hotel we stayed at was a very high end hotel, Mount Wolseley which was in County Carlow about an hour and half or so out from Dublin. We were in Ireland for a wedding, and this is where the hotel block was. It was beautiful inside and out! We enjoyed afternoon tea here one day, and they made me an entire gluten-free platter of sandwiches and pastries for no additional charge. Their breakfast was OUTSTANDING with so many options, also including a hot Irish breakfast made to be gluten-free. They had a separate area with gluten-free pastries and bread, including a separate GF toaster. In the pastry area they had slices of lemon pound cake that were out of this world. We honestly only did wedding-related things here, so I can not speak to exploring this particular area, but we enjoyed ourselves with the wedding activities in this area of Ireland. Osborne’s pub is a must stop for a fun little pub!

Dublin:

The third and final hotel we stayed at in Ireland was in Dublin, at Hyatt Centric The Liberties Dublin. We stayed here for quick access to our ferry the next morning as well as to explore Dublin for a day. This was a really nice hotel that was about a 15 minute walk to downtown Dublin, which was perfect for us. I did not try their breakfast as we left early the following morning so I cannot speak to that. As far as the hotel goes, I would definitely stay there again. We had one full day in Dublin, and it ended up being the perfect amount of time for us! We went to the Guinness factory (obviously couldn’t have anything but it was fun for the rest of the group and I gave one of them my pint that came with the ticket, ha) Trinity Library, and the Book of Kells. Might be an unpopular opinion/hot take… but I could have done without the Library and Book of Kells. We spent the evening walking around downtown Dublin, checking out some pubs (Temple Bar -the original one- was super cool!!!), and dinner before we ended the night to head to Wales in the morning.

Now for our favorite activity of the trip: Dingle Sea Safari!

This boat tour takes you along coastline of Dingle Bay, the caves and the cliffs all the way to the Great Blasket Islands! You can see wildlife depending on the season you do this tour, we went the very end of August and saw a ton of seals (as you can see in the photos!). We stayed in Killarney which was about an hour from Dingle, this worked out well for us.

Our captain had a great knowledge of this coastline and had a lot of history to accompany each landmark. I typically do get VERY seasick and generally motion sick, I am prescribed Zofran for this so I took that just before we left and I did not get sick. It really was a pretty smooth ride, there were big waves at times however the captain was going fast over them so it did not feel so bad.

It costed 70 euros per person for the tour, and they provide waterproof pants, jacket, and life jacket upon arrival. I dressed in long pants and a sweater, as well as a hat and mittens. Then I wore the supplied pants and jacket and I was very comfortable during the tour. Here are some clips from our ride.
